In August 1969, Power Technologies, Inc. (Siemens PTI) was formed by a group of seven engineers with a broad range of power industry-specific expertise. This expertise enabled Siemens PTI to tackle a wide variety of consulting opportunities around the globe in power system planning, operational economics, corporate modeling, dynamic performance, transients, transmission line design and reliability analysis.

As Siemens PTI’s consulting expertise became known, these engineers quickly realized the need for advanced analytical tools and developed software packages to meet these needs. The most successful of these analytical tools has been PSS®E, which is used worldwide. PSS®E is now the common vehicle used by the U.S. power industry to comply with NERC and FERC industry standards.

With rapidly changing technology in power systems, continuing education needed to keep pace, thus the development of Siemens PTI Education and the two-year Power Technology course. In 1969, Siemens PTI began training with 60 students; to date the Siemens PTI experts have educated nearly 25,000 engineers in many facets of power systems engineering.

Building upon Siemens PTI’s strong reputation, we joined Siemens Energy in 2005. This move has allowed Siemens PTI to expand our capabilities across the energy spectrum.

Siemens PTI continues to expand our expertise into the next phase of utility evolution in the areas of Smart Grid Technology and Renewable Energy. These terms sound like new innovations, while in fact throughout our 40-year history Siemens PTI has developed a comprehensive portfolio of products and services that are now integral components of today’s power systems as well as the building blocks of future technology.

In the late 1970s, Siemens PTI studied and modeled wind generation long before its recent re-emergence. Today, we have developed generic wind models to support modeling of new turbine technologies. We regularly work with our clients to evaluate resources and do planning projections in order to meet or exceed renewable targets.

In the past, Siemens PTI was one of the first to analyze and model HVDC and FACTS devices – all investigated, modeled in system studies and added to our PSS®E software. Today, planning is where growth and development in the industry begins. Siemens PTI is ready to partner with the industry participants to address the challenges of today and tomorrow.

In the past, Siemens PTI Education offered theory courses for power engineers. Today, Siemens Power Academy TD – NA continues to offer theory courses and has developed new courses to address the needs of today and tomorrow, including black start and system restoration, distribution automation analysis for the Smart Grid, and power system studies for wind integration, just to name a few.

Our 40-year history proves that we are forward thinking, innovative and reliable. We continue to embody our original spirit and remain at the forefront of technology for the power industry. Be assured that you will continue to benefit from our experience as we address your current and future challenges.
